In Cherkessk, conference suggests setting up Study Centre of Nogai Culture
In Karachay-Cherkessia, participants of the 2nd International Scientific and Practical Conference "Nogai people: 21st century: from the origins to the future" have proposed to create the Centre for Study of Nogai Culture at the Karachay-Cherkessian State University (KChSU) and establish the Council of the heads of the residential settlements with compact residence of Nogai people.
The conference was held on October 12-14. Its participants have discussed the problems of preservation and development of culture and language of Nogai people.
According to Tausoltan Uzdenov, the rector of the Karachay-Cherkessian State University, it is not a pure coincidence that the KChSU is a co-organizer of the conference.
"For decades, our university is the only university in the world, which educates teachers of Nogai language and literature. It's hard to find another nation with such extensive white spots in its history," said Tausoltan Uzdenov.
Eldar Idrisov, Candidate of Historical Sciences, President of the Youth Centre for Nogai Culture "Edige", has proposed to establish the Council of heads of residential settlements with compact residence of Nogai people. According to Eldar Idrisov, the association could assist NGOs in organization of various events.
The Council of heads of residential settlements can only be an advisory body. This opinion was voiced by Akhmet Yarlykapov, Candidate of Historical Sciences and Senior Researcher of the Centre for Ethno-Political Studies of the Institute of Ethnology and Anthropology of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS).
"Of course, we need a body to be endowed with some real authority," said Akhmet Yarlykapov.
