Makhachkala detainees report repeated "prophylactic recording"

The residents of Makhachkala, brought by policemen from the area of the Salafi Mosque on September 30 to the police station, were put on the so-called "prophylactic record" and released. Even those already registered were photographed and fingerprinted, believers told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on September 30 mass detentions took place in Yaragsky Street, located a few blocks from the Salafi Mosque named "Tangjim".

The detentions began at lunchtime, after the Friday prayer, an eyewitness, a lawyer of one of the Dagestani NGOs, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent on condition of anonymity.

"Four blocks off the mosque, at the crossing of Yaragsky and Hungarian Warriors Streets, there was a police bus. Agents of the PPS (patrol-and-post) and DPS (road-and-post) services stopped cars; and their criterion for detention was the presence of beards on drivers and passengers," said the eyewitness, adding that they also stopped pedestrians – Muslims, who were going out of the mosque.

While detaining people, policemen did not even try to create "al least any visibility of observing certain rules and respecting the detainees' rights," a believer named Umar told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent. He was among those taken to the police after the Friday prayer.

Umar said that he was taken to one of the city ROVDs (District Interior Divisions), fingerprinted and photographed there.

"I told them at once that I had already been registered. But they didn't react; all the same, they again and again carry out the same procedure, despite the fact that I had been there for a dozen of times. They have a plan and don't care of anything else," he concluded.
