President's press service: Chirikba's resignation caused by his refusal to go to Transnistria
The Abkhaz Minister of Foreign Affairs Vyacheslav Chirikba was to visit Transnistria to take part in celebrations of the Republic's Day, the president's press service reports.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on September 20 Mr Chirikba announced his intention to leave the post of head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Abkhazia.
According to the press service of the president of Abkhazia, the main reason for Chirikba's resignation was his refusal to lead the Abkhazian delegation in a visit to the Transdniestrian Moldovan Republic for celebrations of the Republic's Day. "Chirikba justified his decision by the fact that in case of his deportation by the Moldovan party he could have problems with entry to European countries," the press-service has reported.
Despite the replacement of the MFA head, the Abkhazia's foreign policy remains unchanged, since under the Constitution it is defined by the president, not the MFA head, says the website of the president of Abkhazia.
Vyacheslav Chirikba took the post of the MFA head in October 2011.
