Bar Association lifts Trunov's lawyer's status

The lawyer Igor Trunov has been stripped of the lawyer's status for "violating the professional ethics," the Bar Association of the Moscow Region has reported. This decision will be appealed against, said Mr Trunov, known for defending the interests of the victims of the terror acts committed at the Domodedovo Airport, Dubrovka Theatrical Centre and Moscow metro.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on July 12, the Qualification Commission of the Bar Association stated "the presence of a disciplinary offense in Trunov's actions." According to Trunov himself, the Commission saw "a disciplinary offense in his speech at a press conference on the problems of the Russian legal defence system."

According to the TASS, Igor Trunov can only in three years try to re-pass a qualifying exam for the lawyer's status.

Igor Trunov himself has stated that the decision to deprive him of his lawyer's status was taken "on the complaint of his fellow lawyers, who were unhappy with his statement about corruption in the legal profession."
