Council of Muftis reports on 15,500 pilgrims travelling for Hajj from Russia

The Russian quota of pilgrims travelling to Mecca for Hajj is filled up to 95%. Some pilgrims are residents of the south of Russia.

Hajj (one of the five basic pillars of Islam) is a pilgrimage to Mecca, a holy place for Muslims. Every Muslim, who has reached the age of majority and has the opportunity to go for Hajj, should do that at least once in a lifetime.

"This year, about 15,500 Russian citizens went for Hajj," the RIA "Novosti" quotes Rushan Abbyasov, First Deputy Chairman of the Russian Council of Muftis, as stating.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that this year, the Chechen quota for Hajj amounted to 3000 people. In 2015, only Chechnya and Ingushetia were able to use their Hajj quotas.
