Vladimir Ostapuk reports to prosecutors about violations of environmental standards in Sochi

At the meeting on ecological issues at the Prosecutor's Office of the Krasnodar Territory, Vladimir Ostapuk, a Sochi ecologist, has drawn the prosecutors' attention to the problems with wastewater disposal, landfills and urban development of the resort of Sochi without environmental impact assessments.

Vladimir Ostapuk, the chairman of the Public Ecological Council of Sochi, has delivered his speech at the meeting of the Environmental Council, held at the Prosecutor's Office of the Krasnodar Territory on August 19.

Vladimir Ostapuk has told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that in his report, he has pointed to the mandatory state ecological expertise to be carried out at the resort of Sochi.

According to the Sochi ecologist, in the territory of Sochi, actually no developer has carried out a proper study of the environmental situation at construction sites. Furthermore, actually no developer has passed the state ecological expertise.

Vladimir Ostapuk has asked the prosecutors to pay close attention to the wastewater treatment facilities of Sochi, which are not operated at full capacity: they can treat only 50 out of 130 cubic meters of wastewater. "And where do the other 80 cubic meters of faeces go in the midst of the holiday season?" asked Vladimir Ostapuk.

"On the basis of the information received from members of environmental organizations, the supervising institutions, law enforcement agencies, and prosecutors are given specific instructions for conducting inspections, the results of which will be made public," reports the website of the Prosecutor's Office of the Krasnodar Territory.
