On eleventh day of Olympic Games, athletes from Caucasus win eight medals

On August 16, natives of Northern and Southern Caucasus won eight medals at the Olympic Games in Brazil. Each of the national teams of Georgia and Armenia won three medals, while athletes from Azerbaijan won three medals.

In total, on the eleventh day of the Olympic Games, natives of the Caucasus won two gold medals, two silver medals, and four bronze medals.

On August 16, Arthur Alexanyan, a Greco-Roman wrestler, won the gold medal in the weight category of up to 98 kg. He became the Olympic champion in Rio de Janeiro and brought the first gold medal at the Olympic Games for the Armenian national team. On the same day, Migran Arutyunyan, an athlete from Armenia, won the silver medal in Greco-Roman wrestling in the weight category of up to 66 kg. And at the final performance in weightlifting in the weight category of over 150 kg, Gor Minasyan won the silver medal for Armenia.

At the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Georgian athlete Shmagi Bolkvadze won the bronze medal in Greco-Roman wrestling in the weight category of up to 66 kg. Lasha Talakhadze, another athlete from Georgia, won for the Georgian national team the first gold medal of the 2016 Olympic Games in weightlifting in weight category of over 105 kg. Meanwhile, he has set a new world record. His teammate Irakly Turmanidze won the bronze medal in weightlifting in the weight category of over 105 kg.

On August 16, Inna Osipenko-Radomskaya, an athlete from Azerbaijan, won the bronze medal in canoeing. Another bronze medal was won by Azerbaijani athlete Rasul Chunaev in Greco-Roman wrestling.
