Unique Dagestani National State Chorus to be reorganized

The authorities of Dagestan have decided to combine the State Chorus of the Republic of Dagestan and the Opera and Ballet Chorus. Members of the State Chorus have claimed the negative consequences of the process of merger for the team, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

The Dagestani State Chorus is to be reorganized in order to optimize the network of the state budget institutions under the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Dagestan, reports the website of the Dagestani government.

According to Murad Gadjiev, Deputy Minister of Culture of Dagestan, the Dagestani State Chorus is to be reorganized with the aim to save the budget funds, and such a practice is used with regard to cultural institutions throughout the country.

The Dagestani State Chorus was established in 1938 on the basis of the local Radio Committee. The members of the unique chorus sing in 14 languages of the Republic of Dagestan, and their stock of plays includes not only works of Dagestani composers, but also of authors of world music. In July 2016, the soloists of the Dagestani State Chorus won the Grand Prix at the international festival "ART Generation. Prague 2016".

According to Natalia Makeeva, a conductor the Dagestani State Chorus, her team has been just informed about the fact of the oncoming merger with the Opera and Ballet Chorus. She also does not rule out redundancy of staff.

Irina Abdullaeva, a singer of the Dagestani State Chorus, believes that as a result of the reorganization, some of the singers will lose the opportunity to earn additional income.
