Yunus-Bek Evkurov demands to review draft law on registration of religious associations
Ingush MPs have developed a draft law reinforcing the state control over religious groups. The leader of Ingushetia Yunus-Bek Evkurov has criticized the explanatory note to the project, according to which 13 Ingush mosques are used by recruiters of international terrorist organizations.
Under the current version of the law, only religious organizations are subjects to registration. According to the explanatory note to the draft law, the Ingush MPs have proposed to extend the above requirement to religious groups as well.
"Recruiters of international terrorist organizations use a variety of religious institutions, mainly mosques. According to the available information, only on the territory of the Republic of Ingushetia, the above activity involves 13 such mosques with the total number of believers, exceeding more than 20,000 people," stated the explanatory note to the draft law.
Ingush leader Yunus-Bek Evkurov does not agree with the information presented in the explanatory note. He has recommended sending the draft law back for revision.
"The explanatory note includes some inaccuracies that cast a shadow on the republic. I have recommended the Security Council of the Republic of Ingushetia and the speaker of the Parliament to review the text of the explanatory note and to correct inaccuracies. There are no Wahhabis and no Wahhabi mosques in Ingushetia, and it is time when everyone should understand that," Yunus-Bek Evkurov stated on his page on Facebook.
