HRW calls on "Formula 1" top-managers to declare human rights violation in Azerbaija

Jane Buchanan, a member of the international human rights organization "Human Rights Watch" (HRW), has called "disappointing" the comment of Bernie Ecclestone, the head of the company "Formula One Management", about the situation with human rights in Azerbaijan. Jane Buchanan has called on the "Formula-1" top-managers to make a statement about the repressions in Azerbaijan.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 14, the human rights organization "Freedom House" urged not to forget the human rights violations in Azerbaijan. On June 16, the "Amnesty International" (AI) addressed to the international community with the same call. The AI has published an updated list of "prisoners of conscience" in Azerbaijan.

On June 17-19, for the first in the history of Azerbaijan, Baku hosts a round of the World Cup in auto racing in the "Formula 1" class.

According to Jane Buchanan, despite the fact that recently, several activists, including journalist Khadija Ismayilova, have been released, the arrests still take place, and a lot of political prisoners are kept in custody.

Earlier, Bernie Ecclestone, the head of Formula One Management, has emphasized that he supports the decision of the European Grand Prix organizers to hold the race events in Baku.

Bernie Ecclestone has added that if the "Formula 1" races were to be held in the countries, completely free from corruption, then there would be very few such places.

Bernie Ecclestone has appreciated the work of the organizers of the races in Baku. He has said that he had introduced to the Azerbaijani side the opinion of the international organizations concerning the situation with human rights.
