March in support of Armenian MP of Turkish Parliament held in Yerevan
Today, the participants of the action in support of Karo Pailyan, a Turkish MP, have marched along Yerevan streets with posters: "We are all Karo!" and handed over to the UN office in Yerevan a demand to condemn the attack on Pailyan committed after his speech in memory of the victims of the Armenian Genocide.
According to organizers, the action was attended by about 30 persons. They demanded from the UN to ensure the MP's security.
In their comments to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, activists have noted that on April 24, the 101st anniversary of the Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Turkey, Karo Pailyan tried to honour its victims at a sitting of the Turkish Parliament, after which he was attacked and beaten up.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that every year, on April 24, residents of Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh and members of the Armenian Diasporas in various countries marked the Day of memory of victims of the Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Empire in 1915-1923.
"The MP was insulted because of his national origin; and expressions of racism were addressed to him," said one of the protesters.
Activists are worried about the appeals posted in Turkish social networks to "kill Karo Pailyan like they killed Hrant Dink."
Hrant Dink, the editor of the Armenian-Turkish newspaper "Agos" was gunned down in Istanbul on January 19, 2007. Dink wrote about the 1915 Armenian Genocide in Turkey.
