Project to update Beshumi resort presented in Adjaria

The project for rehabilitation of Beshumi, a mountain resort, provides the modernization of road infrastructure and water and sewage systems. This was reported by the Department of Tourism and Resorts of Adjaria.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that yet in 2006, Mikhail Saakashvili, then Georgian President, promised to transform the Black Sea coast in Adjaria into a resort of the global scale. In Adjaria, tour operators announced the impact of the crisis on the season of 2015. Owners of small hotels had to reduce prices for the summer season of 2015.

The works to rehabilitate Beshumi will be started this year, and they will be financed by the Georgian authorities. The rehabilitation of the resort will cost more than 2 million laris (about 800,000 US dollars), the "News-Georgia" quotes the Department of Tourism and Resorts of Adjaria as reporting.

According to the Department, the resort of Beshumi, which is located seven kilometres from Goderdzi Gorge, at an altitude of 2000 meters above sea level, is considered to be the best place for people who suffer from chronic respiratory diseases and bronchial asthma.

Beshumi starts the season in mid-June and ends it in early September. The peak of the season falls on mid-August, when the resort traditionally holds a folk festival of Shuamtoba.
