Kadyrov keelhauls residents of Chechnya professing Salafism*

Chechnya has revealed a group, which made use of a conspiratorial network to disseminate the ideas of Wahhabism, extremism and terrorism, the head of the republic Ramzan Kadyrov has stated. He has posted his talk with the detainees on the Instagram.

According to Kadyrov, members of the group, which was revealed through joint efforts of the clergy and the police, were engaged in "befuddling the youth."

"The group leader is a staunch enemy of the true Islam, and hates Sheikhs and Ustazes. This is the first step to terrorism," the head of Chechnya wrote in his Instagram.

He reported that on February 11 he met the members of the group, and together with the Mufti of Chechnya Salakh Mezhiev and his advisor on religious matters Adam Shakhidov, "had a long talk with them."

Earlier, experts stated that Chechnya is gaining momentum in humiliating those residents, who give negative assessment to Kadyrov's activities. This practice is intended to put awesome pressure on activists, whose relatives are also intimidated, experts said.
