March against increase of electricity tariff launched in Yerevan

About 30 persons have begun a march from the Mashtots Park in Yerevan, organized by the initiative group "No to robbery!"

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that actions against the increase of the electricity tariff have been held in Armenia since June 17. After a short break, on September 1, protests in the country's capital were resumed by members of the group "No to robbery!" and the movement "Arise, Armenia!" who seek a complete abolition of the decision to increase the tariff.

The participants of today's action are spreading leaflets among passersby with information about the upcoming rally-march on September 11 in Freedom Square.

Maxim Sargsyan, a member of the coordinating group, said that activists had notified the Mayoralty of Yerevan about the upcoming rally. According to his version, a disobedience action with street blocking is not excluded.

Prior to the march, about 30 people took part in public discussions on the topic of electricity tariff increase, initiated by the civil group "No to robbery!" Their colleagues from the civil movement "Arise, Armenia!" joined the discussion. Activists considered their actions in Bagramyan Avenue in the course of protests.

The biggest mistake was to leave Bagramyan Avenue after President Serzh Sargsyan's promise to subsidize the increase of electricity tariff, said Maxim Sargsyan.
