Court sentences journalist Stomakhin to three years in prison on new charge

The Moscow District Military Court has sentenced journalist Stomakhin, accused of public justification of the terror acts in Volgograd, to three years of imprisonment. In total, together with the sentence announced earlier, Stomakhin has been sentenced to 7 years of imprisonment.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that it is the third trial in the case against journalist Stomakhin starting from March 31. The defendant is charged of public calls to terrorism or public justification of terrorism because of the statement published by the journalist in his blog on January 18, 2014, after the terror acts committed in Volgograd in 2013. The defence declares that Stomakhin is not guilty.

At present, journalist Stomakhin is serving his sentence after the verdict imposed on April 22, 2014. Then, the court sentenced him to 6.5 years of imprisonment in a high-security penal colony on charges of public justification of terrorism, calls for extremism, and incitement to hatred.

Let us remind you that in 2006, journalist Stomakhin was sentenced to five years of imprisonment on charges of inciting hatred through the media. The journalist had served his sentence and was released in March 2011. Activists repeatedly held pickets in his support.
