The death toll includes two civilians and one suspect of involvement in the armed underground – all of them in Dagestan.

Special and counterterrorist operations

On May 30, in the highland area of the Gunib District of Dagestan, near the village Sogratl, power agents confronted an armed grouping, allegedly of four persons. In the course of an armed skirmish, an OMON (riot police) fighter was moderately wounded. One of the militants was killed by response fire.

In the morning on May 27, IEDs were found near three grocery stores in Nazran. They were attached to the doors and looked like metal boxes connected with wires to mobile phones. Sappers managed to defuse them.

On May 28, in the Dagestani village of Gergebil, an IED went off near the gate of the house that belongs to the director of the electric grid of the Gergebil District. Nobody was hurt. According to a local resident, earlier members of the armed underground tried to extort money from the director.

Attacks on civilians

On May 31, near the village of Nizhni Chirkey, Kizilyurt District of Dagestan, two unidentified persons hijacked, by threatening the driver with firearms, a VAZ-2108 car. Then, they drove to the building of the club in the village of Uchkent, Kumtorkalin District, opened fire from inside at two men, and then fled. Both men died from received wounds.

Detentions

On May 27, the head of Ingushetia Yunus-Bek Evkurov said that a man was detained in Ingushetia, whom a group of militants intended to use as a suicide bomber for committing a terror act on the Republic Day, marked on June 4. The detainee is a Nazran resident, born in 1988.

On May 28, Muslim Ataev, a resident of the township of Tarki of Makhachkala, was detained by policemen on his way to his work in his car. His relatives turned to rights defenders asking to help to find him.

According to Selim Magomedov, a lawyer of the Dagestani Bar Association "Kavkaz", who is defending Ataev, his client was exposed to illegal methods of investigation. On May 31, Muslim Ataev, suspected of illegal possession of explosives, was arrested for the period of one month.
