Astrakhan residents aggrieved by fire on March 25 complain about authorities' inaction

Residents of Astrakhan, whose houses were damaged by fire on March 25, complain that till present, they have not received information whether they will be granted new houses.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on March 25, in Astrakhan, ten low-rise buildings were burned as a result of a major fire, including three buildings of municipal property. No one perished in fire; however, 45 persons were left homeless.

On May 30, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent met residents of the damaged houses.

Valentina Kravets, who lives in the house No. 51 in Moskovskaya Street in Astrakhan, has told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that after the fire of March 25, her house was recognized a dilapidated house. However, the city administration has not yet informed her whether she will be granted a new or temporary housing.

Lyubov Bobrova, who lives in a house located in the neighbouring Chekhov Street, has also reported that the fire victims from Moskovskaya Street cannot get housing. "My friend aggrieved by the fire still lives in an apartment which she rents at her own expense. Nobody has helped her until now," the pensioner has expressed her indignation.

The Department for information support of the Astrakhan administration has disseminated the information that only tenants of three municipal burned apartments were granted "equal housing under the social contract of rent." Officials from the city administration have failed to answer to the correspondent's question whether the city will provide the same assistance to fire victims, who privatized their apartments.
