North Ossetia: 48 former pupils of Beslan School No. 1 graduate this year
This school year, in the Pravoberezhny District of North Ossetia, 483 pupils are school graduates; of them, 48 schoolchildren are former pupils of School No. 1 in Beslan, which in 2004 was captured by terrorists. This was reported by Oksana Tsarikaeva, Assistant Minister for Education of North Ossetia.
On September 1, 2004, terrorists took 1128 hostages in the Beslan School No. 1. On September 3, 2004, the operation to rescue hostages was finished. As a result of the terror act, 186 children and 148 adults were killed. 12 fighters of special services and a local resident, who helped to rescue the hostages, were killed during the storming of the school building. 810 people were injured.
According to Aneta Gadieva, a member of the association of victims of terror acts "Mothers of Beslan", at present, none of the psychologists work with children, although they need psychological help.
"There are no specific psychological programmes. In this regard, everyone is coping with his or her problems by his or her own. The government has distanced itself away from the problem. And, therefore, at present, there is no psychological rehabilitation in Beslan," said Aneta Gadieva.
