In KBR, journalist Kuashev demands to bring policemen who detained him to justice
Timur Kuashev, a Circassian activist, rights defender and journalist, has turned to the Prosecutor's Office and the Investigating Department for the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR) of the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF), demanding to prosecute the policemen who had detained him for several hours on the day of the march held on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the end of the Caucasian War.
In the morning on May 21 Kuashev was delivered to the UVD (Interior Department) of the city of Nalchik right from the above march and released without any charges, according to his story, four hours later.
"Policemen kept me in the UVD of Nalchik for about four hours without any legal grounds; they restricted my right to freedom and also, periodically, I was not allowed to use my mobile phone. One of the policemen expressed his negative attitude to my public activities and threatened me," said Kuashev.
"Meanwhile, none of the policemen tried to establish my identity, nobody brought me to administrative responsibility or suspected of committing a crime. Nobody explained to me on what grounds my right to freedom and personal security was violated," the journalist said in his statement.
