ICRF: prior to attacking policemen in KBR, two criminals kidnapped taxi driver
Prior to attacking policemen, two of three criminals, who took part in the shooting with members of the crew of the road-and-patrol service (known as DPS) in Chegem in the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR), had kidnapped a taxi driver and stole his car. This was reported by officials from the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF).
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on May 17, in Chegem, a DPS crew was attacked. One policeman was wounded, two of the attackers were killed by return fire, and one more attacker managed to escape. This was reported by an official from the ICRF's Department for the KBR.
Prior to the shooting, on May 16, at about 10:30 p.m., at the entrance to the village of Yanikoi of the Chegem District, two of the attackers threatened a local resident with a pistol and stole his car. The criminals tied the car owner's hands and put him to the luggage boot.
Then, according to investigators, the two kidnappers of the taxi driver were joined by another accomplice, and on May 17, in Chegem, they shot many times from automatic firearms and attacked staff members of the traffic police (known as GIBDD), engaged in search for the stolen car.
The criminal case was instituted under Articles "attempt on life of a law enforcer", "illicit trafficking of arms and ammunition", "intentional damage to other people's property", and "kidnapping". According to the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, the above Articles provide punishment of up to life imprisonment.
