GPO: violations during preparation of Sochi Olympics result in 55 criminal cases

The checks of the preparation process for the Winter Olympic Games in Russia revealed numerous violations of the law; 55 criminal cases were opened, says the report of Yury Chaika, the Russia's Public Prosecutor General, which has arrived in the Federation Council.

"In total, during 2013, over than 510 prosecutor's presentations on elimination of violations of the law during the preparation for the Olympics were made; and 350 persons were brought to disciplinary responsibility," says the report.

Mr Chaika's report also states that 710 officials and legal entities were punished administratively on prosecutors' initiative.

According to the report, in preparation for the 2014 Winter Olympic Games, the GPO paid special attention was given to "the issue of unauthorized construction of facilities within the boundaries of the Olympic area."

"As soon as possible, the work was organized to prepare additional measures aimed to decriminalize the economic environment when creating the tourism cluster in the North-Caucasian Federal District (NCFD), Krasnodar Territory and the Republic of Adygea," the document says.

Let us remind you that the GPO made an audit of the funds allocated to the Open Joint-Stock Company (OJSC) "Resorts of Northern Caucasus" (RNC) for developing the tourism cluster, and revealed violations and unjustified expenses. The GPO also suspects the "RNC" of tax frauds.
