Chechen authorities make decision to pay salaries to local Orthodox priests

Orthodox priests, who live and work in the territory of Chechnya, will be provided assistance in solving their personal problems, and they will be paid monthly salaries. This was reported by the administration of the Chechen leader.

"In particular, the priests will be provided assistance in solving housing problems; they will receive cars for personal use; and they will receive monthly salaries of 15,000 roubles. It has been also noted that the clergy plays a huge role in the education of youth and the preservation of traditional values," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by an official from the administration of the Chechen leader and Chechen government.

He has noted that today, there are several Orthodox parishes in the territory of the republic in Grozny, Naur and Shelkovsky Districts. The main church of Chechnya Michael the Archangel Church is located in Grozny on the bank of the Sunzha River.

According to the official, in connection with the upcoming celebration of Easter, an order was issued to clean up all the Christian cemeteries located in the territory of Chechnya and to create good conditions for Russian-speaking visitors, who arrive for celebrations from the neighbouring regions.

It should be noted that in Chechnya, the events to celebrate the Orthodox Easter are held every year.
