In Moscow, ceremony of granting award named after Anna Politkovskaya attended by more than 1500 persons
On September 8, in Moscow, in the Great Hall of the Music Conservatory, a charity concert in memory of murdered journalists and a ceremony of granting the National Award "Tuning Fork" named after Anna Politkovskaya were organized and held by the Russian Union of Journalists. The event was attended by more than 1500 persons.
The Award was established on August 30, 2013, on the 55th birthday of Anna Politkovskaya, and on September 8, on the International Day of Solidarity of Journalists, the Award was granted for the first time.
Olga Allyonova, a special correspondent of the Publishing House "Kommersant", became the winner of the Award. This was reported by Nadezhda Azhgikhina, Secretary of the Russian Union of Journalists. According to her information, the Award will be granted annually.
Olga Allyonova is well-known for her reports from "hot spots", and she had been in the war in Lebanon and described the events in Beslan, the terror act of the "Nord Ost", and the events in the war in Chechnya. This was told about Olga Allyonova by her colleagues.
"Certainly, I know exactly what I do not deserve the Award named after Anna Politkovskaya. I cannot work like her, and I have no such patience, resilience, and courage. However, I am very glad that the 'Novaya Gazeta' has appreciated my work so highly, and I am grateful to all my colleagues," the "Novaya Gazeta" quotes Olga Allyonova as saying.
