Armen Ashotyan: no student to be expelled from Armenian higher education institution because of lack of money

At the meeting of Armen Ashotyan, Minister of Education and Sciences, and participants of the protest action against the increase of tuition fees in higher education institutions issues on changes in higher education system and social problems were discussed. The Minister has stated that the issue of increase of tuition fees is acute for long time. He has added that students will not be expelled from high education institutions because of lack of money, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

On August 20, Armen Ashotyan met members of the student youth initiative "Intra-national Liberation Movement". At the beginning of the meeting, activist Vaan Martirosyan read the open letter in which students offered the Minister to cancel the decision to increase tuition fees. The activists who came to the meeting said that the increase of tuition fees would lead to the fact that many talented young people would be deprived of the opportunity to get higher education.

According to the story of Armen Ashotyan, for several years, he tried to suspend the increase of tuition fees at some higher education institutions. However, the issue is acute for long time, and it demands a response, the Minister has emphasized.

"If at present, we do nothing, then the entire system of education will suffer. I believe my task is to solve a number of social issues: in particular, to ensure social package for students with good notes and to take steps to ensure so that they will not be deprived of education," Armen Ashotyan has stated.

"No student will be expelled from higher education institution because of lack of money. An optimum social package will be granted to students in need," the Minister has assured the students who attended the meeting.
