In Azerbaijan, religious activist Ali Guseinov sentenced to nine days of administrative arrest

On August 5, in Azerbaijan, the Sabunchi District Court of Baku found Ali Guseinov, one of the elders of the village of Nardaran, a religious activist and a member of the Islamic Party of Azerbaijan (IPA), guilty of violation of regulations to hold demonstrations and sentenced him to 9 days of administrative arrest.

The activist was detained on August 5. According to the story of Ali Guseinov's colleagues, he is unreasonably prosecuted for participating in the protest action held on August 2 in Nardaran on the occasion of the Day of Gudsa (Jerusalem). The IPA has condemned the arrest of Ali Guseinov and called it politically motivated.

"Ali Guseinov was among those persons who expressed an angry protest against the occupation policy in the modern world, the policy of the USA and Israel that hold the entire world in fear," notes the statement made the IPA about the arrest of Ali Guseinov.

"We do not understand such an inadequate response of the police and the Azerbaijan's authorities to the protest action on the occasion of the Day of Gudsa. In fact, Azerbaijan is not only a Muslim country, but it also suffers from the Armenian occupation. The protest action held in Nardaran was peaceful," the "Caucasian Knot" was told by Natiq Kerimov, a member of the Supreme Majlis of the IPA.

Meanwhile, he has noted that the trial in the case against Ali Guseinov was held without a defendant's trusted advocate.
