Ingush refugees return to North Osetia

On March 16, for the first time in 11 years, 3 Ingush families (out of 44 Ingush refugee families in the list presented by the Ingush State Committee on Refugees and Displaced Persons) were officially allowed in the village of Yuzny, North Osetia's Prigorodny district. The action for refugees' return to the "zone closed for the Ingushetians" is conducted under the aegis of the Office of the Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation for the Resolution of the Osetian-Ingush Conflict. First Deputy Chairman of the Ingush State Committee on Refugees and Displaced Persons Mr Gaytukiyev told it to a Regnum correspondent. According to him, there have never been problems in everyday life between the Osetins and Ingushetians. The situation has been aggravated by local officials for all these years.

  • Sochi activist Vladimir Atamanchuk sentenced to forced labour

    A court in Sochi has sentenced the 72-year-old Vladimir Atamanchuk to 200 hours of compulsory labour, finding him guilty of libel. Besides, he must pay 40,000 roubles in compensation to one of the victims. The activist intends to appeal against the court's ruling.
