Stavropol Territory: Deputy charged with fatal road accident

Valery Kalugin, a Deputy of the Stavropol Territorial Duma from the "Edinaya Rossiya" (United Russia) Party, is accused of violating the "Road Traffic Rules", which entailed a human death, the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) reports.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on November 22, 2012, on the Federal Highway "Kavkaz", a road accident resulted in a human death. According to the investigation, the Deputy Valery Kalugin knocked down a 57-year-old resident of the village of Soluno-Dmitrievskoe, who died from the received injuries.

Kalugin drove his car at high speed and did not brake at appearance of the pedestrian in the roadway, says the website of the Investigating Department for the Stavropol Territory of the ICRF.

The 60-year-old Kalugin, the incumbent head of the Duma Committee on Legislation, State Building and Local Self-Government, refuses to plead guilty, claiming that "he did nothing illegal," the "Rossiyskaya Gazeta" writes.
