ECtHR dismisses complaint of Kalmyks about political repressions
The European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) has dismissed the complaint of Kalmyks, who had demanded compensation from Russian authorities for the moral harm experienced in connection with the deportation that they were subjected because of their nationality in the years of Stalinist repressions. This was stated in the message issued by the ECtHR on March 14.
In 2012, residents of Kalmykia began filing lawsuits on compensation of moral harm caused to them by the state during the exile. After denial of their claims by Russian courts, they began complaining to the ECtHR.
The message of the ECtHR says that since November 2012 they received 2716 applications from the Kalmyks living mostly in the Republic of Kalmykia, the "Interfax" reports.
The claimants filed their complaints against Russian judiciary instances referring to Article 6 (right to a fair trial) and Article 1 of Protocol 1 (right of property) of the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR), the "Kommersant" reports.
