Eight Armenian NGOs unite against corruption

Eight non-government organizations (NGOs) have founded the Association Against Corruption. The organizations disagree with some clauses of the governmental Anticorruption Strategic Program. The Achilles and Asklepiy centers (the former protects drivers' rights and the latter engages in health protection), the associations protecting interest of tradesmen and consumers, the NGOs The Soldier's Mother, Anti-Shadow, Femida, Civil Society Institute, and the Union of Armenian Merchants are members of the new association.

Fighting against corruption is not a single action or adoption of some juridical documents, it is a long and complex process, which touches all spheres of the country's social, economic and political life, the chair of the Union of Armenian Merchants, Tsolvard Gevorkian, said to journalists.

Besides, the governmental program does not provide for the monitoring of various fields. There must be constructive dialogue with the authorities in order to increase the efficiency of fighting against corruption.

The Association Against Corruption is going to submit a number of proposals to the government for discussion.
