Mineralnye Vody

City in Stavropol kray (region), kray subordination, rayon (sector) centre, 170 km south-east of Stavropol. Located in Ciscaucasia, in the south-east end of the Stavropol Upland, in the valley of the Kuma River. An important traffic centre, Mineralny Vody is the starting point of a branch to Zheleznovodsk, Pyatigorsk, Yessentuki, Kislovodsk. Airport, servicing health resorts of the Caucasian Mineral Waters. Population (1992 est.) 73.3 thousand, (1926 est.) 18 thousand, (1939 est.) 31 thousand, (1959 est.) 40 thousand, (1979 est.) 59.8 thousand. City since 1920.

Present Mineralny Vody has railway transport, food-processing industry (a creamery, a gelatine factory, a meat-processing plant); production of building materials; the Souvenir factory, a glass container factory.
