International Helsinki Federation conducts workshops on international law in Ingushetia

Workshops for Chechen human right defenders, arranged by the International Helsinki Federation (IHF) with the financial support of the European Union, were conducted in the town of Nazran, Ingushetia, on 16 and 17 February. Several human rights activists and lawyers from Ingushetia and Dagestan also took part in the workshops. Krassimir Kanev, chairman of the Bulgarian Helsinki Committee, and Diederik Lohman, a human rights researcher and monitor for Human Rights Watch, the US, were invited as experts in international law. According to IHF representatives, the goal of such seminars is to train human rights defenders, including lawyers, in methods and mechanisms of human rights protection in international instances. They have a form of practical trainings.
