Statement of “Memorial” Human Rights Center on the act of terror in Makhachkala

The day before yesterday, May, 2, one more severe act of terror was committed in Makhachkala.

As a result, 13 persons perished and over 100 got injured, among them both law enforcement personnel and civilians.

The terrorists once again manifested that do not reckon with any victims among the population in their struggle for the kind of community and state they consider fair.

The act of terror was undoubtedly aimed at destabilization of the situation in Dagestan. Three days before, i.e. on April, 29, a meeting between representatives of Religious Board of Muslims of Dagestan and the Association of scientists of Ahliu-Sunna sticking to different trends in Islam was held. The severe act of violence which followed this peaceful dialogue between ideological opponents aggravated the situation in the republic once again.

With all their might the terrorists try to frustrate any attempts of consolidation of Dagestani community.

Human Rights Center “Memorial” expresses its condolences to the lost people’s relatives and wishes a speedy recovery to those wounded as a result of the act of terror.
