Snow in Krasnodar and Stavropol Territories was tinted by Sahara sand

Experts explain the coloured snow that fell on March 9 in the Krasnodar and Stavropol Territories by the presence of dust, sand and clay particles in precipitations brought by the wind from Northern Africa, and state that the deposits are harmless.

The snow of unusual colour caused alarm in local residents. Under their assumptions, the snow could change colour because of emissions of chemical factories and is hazardous for human health.

However, as the "Caucasian Knot" was explained at the "Rospotrebnadzor" (Russian Federal Agency for Supervising Consumer Products) that the coloured snow observed in the Kuban River area, by the preliminary data of the examination, has no danger for humans.

According to weather forecasters, coloured snowfalls of the same origin were registered earlier - in 2008 and 2009.
