Law enforcers hold inquiry into Makhachkala UVD boss' murder

In Makhachkala, employees of Dagestan law-enforcement agencies and inspectors of the Chief Investigatory department on the North-Caucasian and Southern Federal Districts are investigating the murder of Ahmed Magomedov, head of the UVD (Interior Department) of Makhachkala.

In the evening on February 5, unidentified persons opened massed intense fire at Magomedov's car and the accompanying car with securities. As a result of the attack Magomedov and his driver, as well as two securities we killed.

According to eyewitnesses, at first the criminals shelled the car with securities; and two militiamen died in situ. Then, the armoured "Volga", where Magomedov was, was caught up with by two VAZ-2109 cars, two persons in each. When the criminals overtook the "Volga", they opened fire from a machine and a sub-machine guns. The driver was killed at once, while Ahmed Magomedov was taken to hospital and died there.

"The main version of the attempt assumes that the crime had to do with Ahmed Magomedov's service duties," said Vladimir Markin, official spokesman of the ICPO.
