Rally demanding resignation of city mayor held in Derbent

Today, the city of Derbent (Dagestan) hosted a 2-thousand-strong rally with a demand to the incumbent city mayor Felix Kaziakhmedov to resign. The resolution passed by the rally asks to appoint the new election of head of the city as soon as possible.

The rally in Derbent on the social and political situation in the city after the previous election held on October 11, 2009, took place in the park named after "Afghan Heroes".

The participants demanded to enforce the decision of the Derbent City Court, which nullified the outcomes of the October election and appoint the new date for the election.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed by Magomed, a resident of Derbent who was present at the rally, that by the end of the event a resolution of 10 points was passed. The main point urges the City Assembly of Derbent to approve the new election date of the city mayor as soon as possible. Another important point demands that Magomed Dibirov, chairman of the CEC (Central Electoral Commission) of Dagestan, and Benyamin Shartilov, chairman the Derbent TEC (Territorial Electoral Commission), should be punished for their illegal actions during the previous election.

The resolution also notes that the law enforcers, who interfered with demonstration of the free will of townspeople, should also be punished.
