Verkhni Lars-Kazbegi in Russian-Georgian border to resume in March 2010
The Russian-Georgian communication through the Verkhni Lars Frontier Check Point will be resumed since March 1, 2010. This was announced by Andrei Nesterenko, spokesman of Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
He has explained that on December 23 the second meeting of Russian and Georgian experts on restart of communication through this check point took place in Kazbegi.
"By its outcomes a decision was made to restart traffic through the check point on March 1, 2010, after signing the coordinated protocol by heads of expert groups and representatives of the embassy of Switzerland in Georgia," said Mr Nesterenko. The Russian and Georgian parties will shortly exchange the respective formal notices, as the "Interfax" reports.
The spokesman has also expressed hope that the soon restart of the check point will be another step in restoring contacts between Russian and Georgian people, the "News Georgia" reports.
In its turn, Armenia has already stated its hope that after reopening of the check point, some 30-40 percent of Armenian cargoes to Russia may also go through this check point.
