Convicts of Nubarashen penitentiary institution ended hunger-strike after they had met parliamentarians

On the instructions of Armenian National Assembly Chairman Artur Bagdasarian, a group of deputies visited the Nubarashen penitentiary institution on August 24 where they met 9 people of the 42 sentenced to death whose penalty had been changed to life imprisonment by the edict of the President of Armenia.

The Public Relations Department of the National Assembly reported that at the meeting the convicts had expressed their dissatisfaction with such a change in their penalties for they had considered life imprisonment to be a more severe punishment.

After the meeting the convicts ended their hunger-strike. There was made an agreement that the questions they had put would be presented to the chairman of the National Assembly and discussed, if necessary, by the Commission for National and Legal Affairs.
